Eng. Khalid Al-Salem

Eng. Khalid holds a postgraduate Master degree, with Honors, in Business Administration from Thunderbird University, USA and a B.Sc in Chemical Engineering, from KSU University, Saudi Arabia.

He gained over 22 years of experience working with Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC). In the first 7 years he was involved in different functions in Research and Technology including research work, technology development, plant performance improvement and customers support. He spent 7 years setting up Chemicals and Polymers Research Organizations in KSA, USA, India and China. This period included the leadership success to commercialize major breakthrough technologies in SABIC (Acetic Acid and Linear Alpha Olefins (LAO)).

He spent good amount of time to start up commercial plants, lead teams to innovate products and technologies. He also led the initiation of many research works outside the KSA and managed the negotiation teams for technology licensing for 4 years. He participated in different affiliates boards with multi-cultural nature.

In the last 4 years in SABIC, Khalid was responsible to implement innovative solutions to Chemicals Assets in different regions and putting technology roadmap for the company to be a leader in Chemicals.

Khalid joined the National Industrial Cluster Development Program (NICDP) as Vice President of Plastics and Packaging since beginning of 2014 to support the implementation of chemicals and plastics downstream industries in KSA and to lead the initiation of pharmaceutical cluster development.
